Dolly Parton’s sister calls Elle King a ‘hillbilly’ after she ‘ruined’ the country star’s birthday tribute with a ‘drunken’ performance

Dolly Parton’s sister Stella has scored Elle Rey a ‘hillbilly’ after his disastrous birthday tribute to his older brother.

Elle caused quite a stir last week when she appeared “beaten up” while paying tribute to country pop legend Dolly.

The 34-year-old singer, who is the daughter of Rob Schneider – performed at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry show at the Ryman Auditorium for the singer’s 78th birthday, although the country legend was not present.

Elle slurred her speech and used profanity, including the F-word several times during the set, which aired on January 19.

Surprisingly, however, Stella defended Elle, pointing out that there hasn’t been as much outrage when male artists have done something similar, although she couldn’t resist calling the singer a ‘hillbilly’.

‘But a little girl called Elle King apparently cursed and insulted some of Dolly’s fans for not knowing a song. She admitted to being “hit” by her words, not mine.

‘But let me tell you this, it wouldn’t be the first time a Hillbilly has taken the Opry stage “hammered,” but I guess it’s okay if you’re a guy, but my God, never let a girl behave. So friends!

‘Double standard, if you ask me. So the Opry apologizes! Ha ha ha’.

The Ryman Auditorium recently issued an apology for Elle’s set that was part of the Opry Goes Dolly show.

They shared, “We deeply regret and apologize for the language that was used during the second Opry performance last night.”

A viral clip shared on TikTok shows Elle singing on the Opry Goes show Dolly with the caption: “I think Elle King just ended her career.”

‘I can’t imagine disrespecting Dolly at the @Grand Ole Opry on Dolly’s birthday. I hope Elle gets the help she needs because this does not pass the vibration test.”

Fans were divided after watching the clip, uploaded by @auctioneergirl, which showed Elle performing Dolly’s song Marry Me, when she appeared to forget the lyrics.

Surprisingly, Stella defended Elle despite her ‘ruining’ her sister’s birthday tribute, although she couldn’t resist calling the singer a ‘hillbilly’ (Stella and Dolly pictured in 2015).

Stella shared, ‘It wouldn’t be the first time a Hillbilly has taken the Opry stage “hammered,” but I guess it’s okay if you’re a guy, but my God, never let a girl act like that, guys!’

Instead, he shamelessly sang, “I don’t know the words to these things in this damn town… Don’t tell Dolly ’cause it’s her birthday.”

Not afraid to upset fans, Elle said: ‘Did you spend money on this s**t?’ shortly before she admitted that she was drunk.

She continued: ‘You won’t get your money back. I’ll tell you one more thing: “Hello, my name is Elle King [and] “I’m fucking screwed.”

One enraged fan said: “She needs to be kicked out of the Ryman Auditorium and publicly apologize to Dolly Parton,” while another struggled to identify her: “I have to Google who this lady is…”

Another user was also left baffled by the outrage: ‘I’ve seen this 3 times and I still can’t understand what he did wrong! Someone tell me I don’t know anything about country music!’

Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry show is credited with the success of country music.

The Opry Goes Dolly show also featured Ashley Monroe, Tigirlily Gold, Dailey & Vincent and Terri Clark, and fans criticized King on social media.

One country fan explained: ‘For those wondering, the Grand Ole Opry is a LIVE radio show, the regular radio DJs can’t swear, and neither can the artists. That, too, was a tribute to Dolly Parton and she forgot half of the lyrics.

But one user felt the Jolene singer wouldn’t be affected by King’s drunken performance: ‘Let me tell you something. Dolly is a sweet lady and she won’t mind if there is someone a little drunk on stage.”

Elle caused quite a stir among fans at the Grand Ole Opry on Friday when she appeared “beaten up” during a performance.

While some TikTok users were unaware of the nuances that came with performing at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry, others explained Elle’s grave mistake.
